UPDATE: Set up now the preliminary webpages of the center where a lot of the activity will take place. Still under development but they can be found at www.sacredmediacow.com

We’ve been throwing around ideas with some colleques at SOAS (the university I am finishing my PhD from) about setting up a research center looking at India, media and especially recent change. I would handle the emerging digital culture side of this as well as the web-based visual stuff. As it seems now, this will probably include both a web-based platform as well as a two-day conference planned some time next year.

So to make the brainstorming a bit more lighter, I made the following icon while we wiki out the details. Not meant to be taken than serious. I’ll keep everybody updated as this develops but meanwhile check out below:

So been in Brussels now for about two weeks. Getting slowly settled: things like Internet, phone, a desk to work on, polishing my French while buying screwdrivers, last strech of the PhD first draft. So far quite like the city and it seems will be now spending most of my next year here. Got Internet connection home yesterday so putting up some first impressions of the city for friends and family to see. More to come. Click on the image or here to see.

I made a stand-alone piece for the part III of the documentary, Elephantasma?, that I co-directed with a Finnish film maker. The last part is perhaps visually the most experimental and where I had a lot of fun playing with things such as random editing, complex AfterFX time echoes etc. Do check out below.

Still Tour 2005

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

I’ve put up a web-gallery of some of the hundreds of pictures I took in Bombay, India, during 2004/2005. Initially, the idea was to do a year-long webxhibition together with partner-in-crime Desoumal. But after some crashed computers and other such things, things got a bit more complicated. I’m now moving the images here. Click here or the image below to check it out.

Took an hour off from the thesis to find a reasonble simple and stylish template through which this could be done. Don’t have time or motivation to tweak with Flash to make a customized portfolio. Maybe later. This here is a ready-made template from SimpleViewer, which – together with Google’s Picasa – makes my life much easier.

Please comment on how this works.

Will also be putting other galleries up shortly.

The original post went the following way:

A relative died recently. He had suffered from schizophrenia for years and finally ended up killing himself at the age of 42. The funeral was thus small and consisted of mostly the closest friends and family. I tried to capture some of the somber mood and the funeral with its distinctly stoic and minimalistic small town Northern European Christian traditions and their expressions of emotion and grief.
